If yesterday we marked the date when Prohibition was enforced, today we celebrate one of the key roles that played a part in resisting Prohibition—the bootleggers. Those of you who invested your best fortunes in stores like “The Third Ear” and “The Hole in the Black” are familiar with the concept of “bootleg” as an original but illegal recording. That’s exactly what the bootleggers did—they continued the flow of alcohol into the U.S. (literally!) by smuggling original, unadulterated alcohol, which was, of course, illegal at the time!

Today on YouTube, I’m highlighting two such bootleggers, thanks to whom we are back to drinking alcohol here in the U.S. In the picture, you can see me with the Great Gatsby, who was also part of that era! Cheers!
